Task #27 for the Single Ladies
We lived in the United States and my husband and I were already assistants when we decided to get married. The rush was on to choose my dream wedding dress…
I knew what I wanted but at the same time I didn’t know how it would be.
I went from shop to shop with my mother-in-law and fell in love with them all! It was really difficult to choose, but there was one that captivated me, it was like a dream!!!
Even my father-in-law who was with us on that day, says that this dress was the most beautiful!
It had these fabric flowers all over it that made it stand out amongst all the other dresses, but I didn’t try it on, I only looked at it in the shop window; I thought that it wasn’t for me, in spite of all it’s beauty…
That’s because it had a really deep neckline; I asked them to adjust it, to add some material to make it higher, but the shop assistant looked at me as if I was an alien!
“That’s a normal neckline,” she said, wanting me to try on the dress.
“Not for me,” I responded as I started looking for an alternative dress…
I found one that I thought was beautiful, but it had the same problem. I insisted with the shop assistant and she finally agreed to higher the neckline. A few days later, I went back to see the dress of my dreams…
The matter of taste is not up for discussion here, perhaps you won’t find this dress beautiful, but for me it was really stunning!
When I was choosing, I had a vague idea of what I wanted: one thing for sure was that all deep necklines and strapless dresses were out!
This was my faith.

If the Lord Jesus would be at your wedding in person, to carry out the ceremony, what type of dress would you choose?
That’s right! My Lord Jesus was present at my wedding and will also be at yours too, therefore, it’s worthwhile to choose a dress that will please Him as much as it would your future husband…
Fashion dictates many rules, but a woman who fears the Lord is not lead by them.

Very true! What I find mind-blogging is how Hollywood has influenced "fashion" and what seemed "normal" now appears insane. One of the hardest things to do nowadays is find clothes that are appropriate. We see all these clothes that basically expose your entire body, its almost as if the women who wear these clothes are offering themselves...

That's true - so many wedding dresses are inappropriate nowadays.
ReplyDeleteWedding dresses with low necklines and bandeau (strapless) are definitely a NO, NO - there are so many other beautiful dresses out there. A lady has to look dignified on her wedding day because as you say, Jesus will be there and you have to please Him as well as the man you're marrying. (You can't look dignified when you're showing lots of skin).
My wedding dress has come to mind now. It had a small waist, and fell into a long pencil skirt which in turn fell into a five foot train at the back, had a sweetheart neckline, lace sleeves and was covered in sequins and pearls - I felt beautiful wearing it.
This os very helpful for me not just for dresses but how we dress for church and everyday. Thank you.

Hi Fe, I went through a similar challenge. At my wedding days, most fashion designers were homosexuals or designers for carnival outfits and having a wedding dress designed by someone who had so different principles than mine was not an option. Again that was my faith for my wedding gown. And days were running short but I knew I would find the one designer who would understand me and the importance of this day in my life. Guess what? I came to meet a 75 year old lady, with 55 years of experience in wedding gowns, retired, who just accepted to do my dress because I was marrying a pastor and being a Christian she really valued the nature of our wedding. My point is: whatever we do with the intention of honouring God, He will honour us back and prepare the way. I looked stunning on that day, as you did, and above all we were comfortable with our choices knowing God was there to lead the way.
ReplyDeletethat is so true .the way we dress has to be discreet as a woman of God and we have to be comfortable with what we are wearing even if its your big day believe me I have learnt my lesson
ReplyDeleteMany young ladies feel that their wedding dress does not need to be discreet; "After all I only get married once ". This however is not the right thinking, in everything we do we should be examples of women of God.
ReplyDeleteVery true. The clothes nowadays are too small, short, or low rise. Blah, it's hard to find decent clothes, but layers always help. Or I find my own way of fixing the deep necklines. ^_^ all for Jesus.
